Lumen Photo Studio
An open-source, non-destructive RAW photo editor - a free alternative to Adobe Lightroom, built on a colour-correct linear-light engine.
- C++
- Git

Overview
A desktop RAW editor built the way a colour pipeline should be built: every adjustment happens in linear-light float32, using the real piecewise IEC 61966-2-1 sRGB transfer function rather than the pow(2.2) approximation most projects settle for. Exposure is a true multiplier, contrast pivots at linear middle grey, and editing is non-destructive by construction - the edit is plain data, the renderer is stateless, and the original file is never written to.
Engineering highlights
- 16-bit RAW ingest end to end - the decoder, the working buffer and the encoder all carry full depth, so a RAW keeps the latitude it was shot for
- SQLite catalog that imports ~1,000 photos/second, with indexes chosen against EXPLAIN QUERY PLAN rather than by guesswork
- Colour-managed export to sRGB, Adobe RGB, Display P3 and ProPhoto RGB, converting pixels and embedding the profile rather than relabelling
- Builds and runs on Windows, Linux and macOS, proven by a CI matrix that launches the application headlessly on every platform
- Bring-your-own-key AI assistant that works with any provider, including a fully offline local model
